For Families

Newly Diagnosed

The Manitoba Rett Syndrome Association understands that receiving a Rett syndrome diagnosis can be overwhelming for families.

We offer a complimentary package to all parents of children recently diagnosed with Rett syndrome. When you are ready, contact M.R.S.A, and we can connect you with other families in Manitoba. Additionally, we can provide you with valuable information on navigating life with Rett syndrome in Manitoba.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

With implementation of AAC, individuals with Rett Syndrome can express themselves, share their ideas, and connect with others. Utilizing AAC for those affected by Rett Syndrome can lead to a remarkable improvement in their overall quality of life. Early intervention with AAC is key and can assist in development of communication and cognitive skills and improve quality of life for those with Rett syndrome. AAC ensures that every individual’s unique voice is acknowledged and heard.

These innovative tools and technologies enable individuals with Rett syndrome to participate more fully in daily life, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. From eye-tracking devices to specialized communication apps, these resources allow for a richer exchange of thoughts and emotions, bridging gaps that once seemed insurmountable.

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods can include anything from picture boards and speech-generating devices to more sophisticated technologies like eye-tracking systems.

For additional information on AAC, please reach out to OARC (Open Access Resource Centre) in Manitoba. They provide valuable resources and support for individuals utilizing AAC, including providing trials for eye gaze systems.
